We still have plenty of time to bake some fun crab cookies. You can decorate cookies at any time. Have you made Kalikimaka cookies with Santa wearing his cute swim shorts in the summer?

You can decorate cookies at any time with the design of your choice. We can make Santa during the summer, so we’ll make crab cookies for Christmas. These little guys would look great with a set of hammerheads, jellies, or Crazy Santa Shark cookies. Ok, I am going to the oven to bake some fun cookies featuring crabs, hammerheads, sharks, and jellyfish.

Remember that it does not matter what time of year you bake and decorate your animal and summer cookies as long as you enjoy yourself!

You can also use a black food gel and a paintbrush to paint the smile if you prefer not to draw it.

Optional

You can make the candy eyes a week ahead of time if you want them to have enough time to dry. Make them in different sizes, and store them airtight so that you have them when you need them.

Let the cookies cool completely, and then cut out crab shapes.

After the cookies are cooled, draw the pattern using a food-safe marker.

You can flood the legs at the same time by lining up the legs and attacking them with red royal icing. Once the icing has dried, outline the middle portion and attack it. You will get one strange leg if you outline and shoot all of them at once. If you do them separately and let them dry, your crabs will look like they have six legs instead of 2 weird legs.

After that, flood and outline the pinchers. Let it dry for a minimum of ten minutes.

After the icing has formed a crust (which is just a sign that the top layer of icing is dry), outline and flood the two other legs. Let the royal icing set for ten minutes.

It’s now time to soak the body in water and let it air dry for several hours.

It’s easier to decorate cookies that are decorated with a single color of icing because you won’t need to worry about the colors bleeding together. This makes decorating the cookies a bit easier without having to worry about the result.

It’s now time to add eyes after the cookie body has dried. The way I said them was probably not the easiest. I piped the circle of royal icing in white and then added the eyes. The eyes did not stay in place as I added the icing. The next time, I will pipe a dot of white for each eye right after I flood the crab’s body. As the crab’s body dries, let them dry. Add a drop of icing to the top of the white dot, and then attach the candy eye. It doesn’t matter how you do it, but making circles first and letting the icing dry will be best.

You can see in the second picture how many dots I have added. Add a few or many drops for some fun. You can add as many bubbles as you like in any color.

You can make a mouth with a black food-safe marker if your icing has dried. You can also use black gel food to create a smile.
